Went today and sat over a school of smallmouths for probably 5 hours. Only caught three. One was 4.65, 3.97, and a spotted bass that was 4.11. I guess it was a pretty good day despite my burnt face and neck.
The trout guys up there are really catching smallmouths right now. "Report is"(wink,wink,nudge,nudge) smallmouth are in deep pockets next to spawning coves on or beside main lake points. I dropped my trusty aqua vue down and it looked like an aquarium down there. They just werent in the eating mood yet. Water temp is 51 on main lake. Devils Fork:53. Toxaway:55. Horsepasture:54. Thompson:53. Two or Three more weeks and the right moon should see some early spawners. Had alot of followers on jerkbaits too.
