fished club tourney this past Saturday and my partner and I put in at low falls. We stayed in the river all day to be safe. He caught 3 right off the bat with a spinnerbait right outside the cut in low falls. 1 keeper, 2 dinks. That was all he would have the rest of the day. I tried everything from spinnerbaits, frogs, cranks and then around 11 decided to just stick with a light texas rig the rest of the day. Tried about every soft plastic i had and then tried the old school bait...purple firetail! It was on then! I did have a little problem at first because i was so rusty and really havent fished a lot in the last 2 months (waiting on that new skeeter 20i from Mike!) and I played tug o war with the first couple of fish, they would pull on it, i would pull back, they pull on it again and then my slow self would realize that i needed to set the hook but it was too late. So after then went on for about an hour, I learned to set the hook. I boated 9 with the best five going 6.5lbs. Fishing from the back of the boat, that was good enough for 3rd overall. 1st place had 18lbs caught on a jig in stumphole. He had two 7lbers! 2nd fished in Danny Bells all day since he had motor trouble and had 8lbs. Dont know what he used. Water is low and it's ugly out there. We had a hard time getting in and out of Low falls so ya'll be careful. Is the water so low because of NC stealing the water from the Catawba River?
tight lines
