Was on Russell 2 Saturdays ago, the 18th. Way up the lake, only a couple miles south of hartwell dam. Noticed the current was running upstream. Does the hartwell dam back pull from Russell to hartwell? I know Russell dam back pulls from the hill, but don't think it would cause a current that close to hartwell dam.

Hartwell does not pump back with their units and Russell Dam is the only one in the chain that can do so. I work for the USACE so this is not just an opion. What you saw and most people don't notice is that once hartell stops generation, there is a sloshing effect on Lake Russell. The tailwater at hartell will drop when they stop generation and about an hour later the elevation will rise and then fall again. Its like a hydrowave that travels from harwell dam to Russell dam and then back again. Hope this helps.
