Weather was wierd with warm start, but cooling and windy after day break then rain later. Sun did not come out until 2:00 p.m. Most reported best bite after 1: 00 p.m. Don and I struggled all morning; at 1: 00 p.m. we only had four fish between us. At 1: 00 we headed to the creek and docks where we started. Despite not even getting bit there ealier, Don put on an exhibition (from the back of my boat )
and caught a keeper off of five consecutive docks !!! Despite trying Pop-R, shakey head, small spinner baits, crank bait, jig, drop shot, and carolina rig, all fish were caught on the Texas rig with dark worms. The only difference between his rig and mine was his medium-heavy rod (same brand) and my medium rod. Those rascals just wanted that worm presented from the back of the boat.

Now those are the kind of tournament weigh-ins I like to see. Makes me think I actually have a chance of winning one some day.

It seems like every tournament our club has had this spring has been hexed by wind or cold front conditions keeping the weights down. The only exception being our Monticello tournament; on that one, the weather was perfect, but the lake came up 4 feet over night. My strategy on Wateree was to get a limit off of the docks. then move out to look for big fish...the limit never came. On a more positive note, last September my partner and I took 22-15 to the scales on Santee. The rest of the club said they weren't going to let us fish together anymore
