Our tourney went out of Clear Water Cove and the parking lot was almost full when we got there at 6:30 a.m. and the fog was low and thick. We had 11members show up for this tourney. Blast off was at @7:00 a.m. Barret and I saw bait on the Lowrance unit on the point at the mouth of the cove at the ramp and sat and casted for about 45 min. with no hits at all, so off we go in a fog as thick as pea soup and I was praying as we went. Going back toward the dam we made to the cove that we wanted to start in. Casting top waters along some wash walls with no hits, Barret was using a buzzbait and I was casting a spook Jr. about half the way back we saw and heard a fish hit on top along a clay bank, but it wouldn't hit our baits. We then got to one of the flats we were hoping that some fish might be in, but nothing was there but clear water, didn't see any signs of bait fish. On our way back to a point in the back of this creek, we began to see some sign of some bait fish around this point, but no sign of feeding fish, so we backed off of the point and began to cast our U-rigs or A-rigs ( I make ours and we call ours the Lumbee rig). Barret had something hit and miss his twice, and as I was reeling mine in and I saw a bass following it up to the boat that looked like it may have been 4lbs or better. I told Barret that we may need to let our baits fall all the way down to the bottom before starting to reel them. Our boat was sitting in about 10-14 ft and the point was going up to 5-6 ft. Then after about 10 cast I got a hit and missed it at the boat and two cast later I put a 2 1/2lb in the well It was about 9:00 a.m. and we started coming by some boat docks casting the Lumbbe-rig and we got to one dock that looked old and Barret made a cast out in front of it and something hit and the fight was on and he boated a 3lb Striper and while he was getting his fish off, I cast in the same location and hit another 3lber striper. We hit 5 stripers from that one dock in no time flat, cast after cast, then nothing. We worked our way to the next point and barret hit three small non-keepers, up to the next point. A guy stoped and ask how it was going and he told us that he had got three off wash wall on pop-r first thing that morning and they were 5-6lbs each. I wanted to go back and work the area we had caught fish from but Barret wanted to try new water and off we went, to the dam and up the river with only one hit, peanut up river, and it may have been as big as the crankbait Barret was using. So at 1:30 we went back to the area we first caught fish from and wouldn't you know it a boat was sitting on the point the bass were on. I made along cast toward the striper dock and let my rig fall to thee bottom and about half way back I got a hit and it was a 4lbs 2oz bass. Barret made a long cast in the middle of the pocket and boated a 7lbs striper and we back off into 14ft casting toward dock and hoping that boat would move off the point and he didn't because he caught 2 keepers. So I place second and had BF of the tourney . By the way we will be having Striper for lunch today! Hope and pray this helps some else on there next trip out.
