Today was a FIRST for me ... the first time catching a bass on Lake Wylie!
Actually I caught two, both small. The largest was only 15 inches and weighed one pound, but it was fun to catch all the same. After not getting any strikes this morning on carolina-rigged lizards or normal sized worms, I decided I would try some of my old lunker worms I used to use in Texas. To my surprise, it worked! The first bass was caught on a 10-inch texas-rigged Red Shad worm. The second bass was caught on a 11-inch black and blue Bass Assassin worm. Both were caught next to floating docks in 6 to 8 feet of water. Also, I am learning to WAIT a moment to make sure the bass has the bait
before setting the hook.
Water temp varied from 68 to 77 degrees ... lower temp in Torrence Creek, warming around CopperHead Island and Catawba Creek, and highest in South Fork Creek. Three of these areas was new water to me. I am enjoying exploring and slowly getting to know the lake.
Spoke with a few fishermen. I am trying to get out the word about this forum. Several said they would check us out.
Hope everyone does well this weekend!
