Has anyone been to Johnson's Lake lately? I haven't been their since I was a kid. I was wondering how the bass fishing is their. I remember huge blue gill but not many bass. Any info will be helpful.

Its a 40 acre SCDNR lake between CampCroft (Spartanburg) and Pacolet. I looked it over a few weeks ago and it looks good. Only a few people fishing from the bank. I thought about putting in the Jon Boat and doing a little bassin.

I fish that lake 2 or 3 times a year. Great bassin lake, I've seen some 8+ # being caught before. Croft State Park lake is good too, I was just their this past weekend.

I haven't rode down there lately because I haven't had the time. About 15 years or so ago they drained the lake to fill Lake Craig after the dam had burst. It doesn't have some good bass but they can be tough to find at times. Either two or three years ago the beaver dammed the inflow up and we had some heavy rains and the water ran over the road and into the lake eatting away the bank along the road. The state came in and placed rocks along the bank and removed the beaver dam. Basically the upper end is shallow except for the creek channel. Be sure if boating to watch for wasp nest hanging over the water because they are really mean when you run into them.

Thanks guys for the info. My son and I went down their this morning. My son caught two little dinks pretty quick. I had one to the boat (another dink) but it got off. We noticed a lot of bait fish this morning being spooked all over the place. We got the hits as we threw platics into the bait fish area. Two other were fishing on the other end of the lake. We seen them land two nice cat fish. If I had to guess, one was about 4lb and the other was twice that big. When we brought in the boat a man on the bank caught about a 10-12lb carp on chicken liver. After the bait fish stopped moving, so did the bites.
