I am waiting on a new gas tank for the johnboat so I got up early and decided since I had no gas motor I'd go to Lake Cherokee this morning and check it out. I hadn't been there at all this year or last and only a couple times in 07 if I remember. The lake is full and clear like drinking water. Temp was 83 degrees everywhere. This lake was drained about 6/8 yrs ago due to excessive grass and stuff and it was pretty nice 3 yrs ago. Close to home and I caught some decent fish playing around in the mornings back then. Well the grass carp must have died or something because the darn lake has alot of grass in it again. I rode all the way around the lake and beating the banks fishing a worm with a sinker it not going to work. Thru some topwater stuff and a SB but didn't get a thing on them and saw no surface feeding at all. Talked to the only guy I saw there and he said the DNR had put chemicals in the water to kill the grass 2/3 weeks ago and the bite has been gone since. Next time I go I'll take my big tacklebox so I have some stuff with me to try. Only had a couple things in a small case today. Nice lake, pretty place and there are worse ways to spend a early morning. RM
