Went to Slade Lake this morning for the first time. Fished from 8am-11am. Water temp was 68 this morning and 70 when I left. Water clarity was brown
. That 'Pond' is as shallow as a bath tub
! 7' deep at the dam is the deepest I could find and that's only about 20% of the 'pond'. Majority is in the 2-4' deep range with the exception of the upper end and it's 1' - mud deep
Caught 6 bass, all on bubblegum FW. NUT-MAN would be proud of me ..... I only missed 2 other fish on the FW ....(lots better with tha FW than I usually do). All fish came on shaded banks. FW had to be placed right against the grass or they would not bite it ....... lots of small minn'er's living on the edge of the grass right now. Caught all of mine between 8am and 9:30am ...... fish shut-off either due to sun getting higher, fishing pressure, or both ............ this is only a Wednesday/Saturday lake. Would have stayed longer but the 'pond' was filling up with other fisher-people and I hate a crowd. Kinda surprised me that many people on a Wednesday.
Talked to a guy at the ramp and he said he caught only one and it was first thing that morning when the fish were busting in the middle and he caught it on "a topwater plug" but it too was of no size. ............... remember the middle of the 'pond' is only 5' deep out there :???:
Good luck if you go .......... I think I'll stick with Clarks Hill or Savannah River/ Stevens Creek (another boat ramp I found today that is so full of stumps it makes Santee look like a church parkin' lot on a Weekday
)
