I have a 1994 Merc 175 XRI. At the suggestion of the mechanic I went to to have a reed replaced (at a marina that sells Hammer and Mercs), he said I should start running ring free. And I have, for the past year, with what seems like some improvements in performance (maybe just wishful thinking )

Anyways, now that I am reading about the stabilizers we all should be running, I was wondering if it is OK to run both in the fuel at the same time or do I need to?

With the E-10 formula fuel now and the amount of time the fuel sits in the tank it is recommended that a stabilizer such as Marine formula Sta-bil or Starbrite's Startron be added to the tank this will help combat the effects of the enzymes in the ethanol added to the gas. The ring free is more of a de-carb for your motor you could also run Sea-foam in the gas as that will decarb and stabilize the fuel but it won't combat the enzymes in the e-10 gas. No need to add ring free to every tank every 3rd tank would be sufficient.
I would start out with a full tank dose of the stabilizer first then add incremental amounts on your next fill ups.
I would also add an external water separator to your fuel system.

So to summarize to make sure I understand:
1. Add recommend doses of Stabil, marine formula, with fuel, starting with full tank, then adding more as I add fuel to keep concentration the same.
2. Add the ring free every third tanks
3. Install the external water filter
