When I came home from the river today I changed the foot oil in the little boat and it was milked up bad so I pulled the foot off. This is a 20 HP Johnson 1967 that I bought from the origional owner. Anyway I got it all apart and everything is good except the shift rod O Ring which seems to be what was leaking. The gears, bushings and shafts look like new. I plan to do all the seals and that o ring as well as a water pump impeller while I got it apart. I checked the compression and it is 135 on both cylinders. Does that sound right for this motor? I converted it to electric start a few years ago so when I found all the parts used at a buddies shop, that's how I was able to check the compression. Also should I de carb this little motor too? I never have and I've had it about 8 or 9 yrs but probably haven't run it more than 10 or 12 hrs running time. Thanks, RM

Hey RM,

I can only go back as far a 1968 on my parts look up but they should be the same,
Here is the parts list: Pump Kit 382468, Drive shaft seal 321788, Shift rod bushing 304765, O ring 301877, Shift rod gasket 304764.

The compression numbers sound great!! It wouldn't hurt to decarb it but I'd use only 1/2 a can on that little guy. . Happy parts changing! CM

Thanks for the help and info CM. I pulled the thermostat and checked it too. Had one get clogged up with rocks and sand on my 25 hp motor and almost hurt it.......LOL. This one was pretty clean and I boiled it to be sure it opened and it did. Thanks again. RM
