Are additives like Sta-Bil needed in fuel for 2 cycle engines? If not needed do they provide any benefit?

just had my motor serviced and the tech informed me esp with the influx of ethanol that Stabil is even more important today then ever . The ethanol breaks the gas down even quicker than 100% gas. I had been usung Stabil every time i put gas in the tank but still had some water in the fuel line so he suggested adding a little extra or better yet find a place that sold !00% gasoline. That i have done but i still plan on using stabil

The original red Sta-Bil always worked for me. Now that fuel has ethanol in it I just use the new blue formulation and have not had a problem. I too mix it a little stronger than they recommend. I've been running the 'blue' for the last year, or two, in everything from lawnmowers, chainsaws, weedeater, and 2 different outboards ...... still no fuel related problem.
I also run a fuel/water seperator on my bass boat.
........ as well as RingFree (in the JohnRude and the Hammer).
I've heard that the latest advice from dealerships is to run fuel tanks 'low' instead of leaving them full. Basically the thought is 'less fuel = less chance for seperation'.
Good Luck !

Wouldn't hurt to put some Stratron Enzyme treatment in your tank every 3 months either.
