Looking at a used 2004 Triton with a 2004 Optimax. Boat has been sitting outside (with boat cover) for about 2 to 3 years and has not been run any. Probably doesn't have 50 hrs on it. I have heard horror stories of cranks rusting, cylinder walls rusting, etc. when a boat has been sitting. Don't think this one has any winterization or fogging done. Any way to check things out before we simply take it to the lake to test it out and blow it up? Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

Sorry guys. The boat is a 2004 tr21x with a 225 Optimax. Can probably get the boat for around 20k, but again, it has been sitting up for 2-3 years. Probably doesn't have but 50 hrs on engine. Any advice would be appreciated. Worried about the motor sitting up, crank rusting, cylinders rusting, etc. Anybody have any suggestions other than.....don't buy?

I would also be worried about the fuel lines especially with the ethanol base fuels. If you are in the Greenville area I'd take it over to Don Weed at European Marine and have him check it out. Better to be out $80-$100 than thousands. I wouldn't be too terribly concerned with the internals but it is better to have is checked by a pro.
