CM,After running the little motor in a tub of water I went to the river today to run it good. Made it about 1/4 mile and it started to tighten up so I cut it off, it was hot. I fooled around fishing and got back to the ramp. Started it up but it was still hot. Had water coming out the exhaust ok and this motor has no pee hole so that's the only way I can tell if it's pumping that I know of. Pulled the plugs out and they look fine. Plan to go out later and check it out. If water is coming out the exhaust it should be pumping right? If I wanted to add a line for a pee hole where do I want to drill it? Therostat housing? RM

Update, It gauled a cylinder. Pulled the foot off and all looked fine there. Checked compression and bottom cylinder was 90 while the top was still 130 so I pulled the head off. Bottom cylinder is gauled from about 8 oclock to 12 oclock from the ports to the top of the bore. Being a 67 model not sure if it's even worth fixing. Your thoughts? RM

Sorry to hear that RM, can't imagine why it would have gone loco. I haven't messed with them motors in a long time. I'll have to check parts to see if you can go over size on the piston and if it even available any more. Never added a tell tale to one as like you said the H20 goes out the exhaust. I'll get back to you in the AM. I hate it for you bud.

CM, I'm not sure why it pucked either, just one of those things if it had water going through it. So water out the exhaust is the only sign that it was pumping water then? I had that and the pump looks good. Next question is simple, Do you think it is smart to fix it? The old thing seems to be in good shape and looks like it has never been apart but I worry it will need alot of parts when I get it apart. If the parts are available I am pretty sure the Sunnen power hone can bore it and I do all the work myself so labor will have no cost. I know there aren't many small used engines available for sale so I'm thinking that may be a good option. The 24 lb trolling motor works OK but it won't get the boat on plane well.......LOL. Just short of being river bank guy now.......LOL. RM

Good point, just the piston and rings are gonna cost you $130. Then a seal kit as you have to tear it down. If you have nothings else to do and you want to tinker with it then do it. I think SSminnow has a newer model 10 FS he had a bad recoil spring. Depends on what you want to do bud, and how fast you want to be back on the H20 with the little guy. :roll:
