I have a 94 Merc 175XRI. I ordered a new fuel filter for it today from Mercury (looks like an oil filter off a car) and it's labeled as a water separator fuel filter. With all the ehtanol hub-bub, I have been reading about guys cutting in a water separator into the fuel line between tanks and motor. Should I add that fuel filter, too, or is the one on the motor enough?

If your able, I would add one inside the boat on the fuel line just to be safe.. You can prob. do it for less than 100.00

Bass Pro has the whole kit for $65. Looks easy to install, I'll be getting one very soon. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

I agree with you 76bassman. That price is a bargain compared with a new motor or even the headaches of dealing with bad fuel
