I have a 94 Skeeter and the on-off-on rocker switch in the rigging compartment broke after 10 years. It switches the batteries from parallel to series so I can run 24V TM or charge the batteries. The boat also has two 40 amp circuit breakers, one for each battery. This is the only problem I have had with the switch.

Here's my question. On the side of switch it says 20 amp at 12V. Is this switch heavy enough to handle the load?

Again, I've never had a problem. Just trying to figure it out and double check before buying a new one.

Thanks.

Trolling Motors pull a lot of amps, more so in 12 volts. 24 Volts will pull less most trolling motor now days run a 50 amp breaker. Depending on the size of your motor. If you had a 40 amp breaker I would not put in anything less than a 40 amp. That being said I would not try and put on a 20 amp breaker. Just remenber that when you votage goes down your amps go up. 36 volts will pull less amps that a 24 and even less than a 12v. Breakers of this size are not always avable at the auto parts store and sometimes have to be special ordered. you can go to the web site and type in the breaker you need and should be able to find one. i keep them in stock in my shop. you need a breaker that has a manual reset meaning after it trips you will have to manauly reset it yourself.

Thanks Capt. I've been reading more about it. I upgraded last summer to 24V 82 lb thrust TM. My boat was set up with the run/charge switch. I was just using the 24V setting to run this new TM (old one was 12/24). It looks like I need to rewire for straight 24 with a 50 amp manual reset like you recommended, which will bypass the switch and 40 amp breakers that are in there now and make for a better system for the new TM. I guess that's why they say a day's fishing is a day's fixin'.
