We have a 2000 Mercury 200 EFI. It ran well yesterday until about 11:00 then it would kinda hesitate when running at speed. It felt like I was lifting the hotfoot, but was not. It would slowdown, speed up, slowdown, etc. until it slowed down and would only run at idle speed. Since i was close to the ramp, I just idled back to take the boat out. While waiting for my partner to pull the truck around, I tried to get the boat out of the hole, and it worked fine.
Someone at the ramp said that it might be a clogged fuel filter. The filter looks like my trucks oil filter (a screw on variety), I believe. Do these simply screw off and a new one screw on? Or is there more to it?
Also, does this sound like where the troulbe may be or not? Thanks in advance for any help.

Very possible. Does sound like a fuel restriction.
Not sure on the style of filter but they are very simple to put on.

Need to take in and have fuel psi checked you may have a hi psi fuel pump problem if not corrected you can burn your motor up by leaning it out of fuel , no fuel no oil. fuel psi should be about 36 to 40 psi at test port.
