This don't happen all the time, but ever so often at low speed usually no wake the motor or foot seems like theres a hickup or bump almost. My first thought was oh crap one of the gears in the foot is bad. If that was the case shouldn't it do it all the time. Anything else anyone can tell me would be a great help. Thanks

could be a plug going bad or even a bit of water in the gas will do it too..

If it was a gear or something in the foot wouldn't it do it all the time? I really don't want to pull the foot unless I have to I am just worried if it is the foot I don't want to make it worse. I bought ngk spark plugs and some fuel treatment (sta-bil) but have not put it in yet due to goofy work. I just don't want to tear it up, know what I mean.

You may want to drain the lower unit fluid and check its condition. Check the vent/drain plugs for metal chunks and check the fluid for a milky coloring or a burnt smell. If its milky it's getting water in the case if it's burnt there's an internal problem.

I changed the fluid last month and there was no metal. It didn't look like it was a milky fluid. I do plan on doing that again though. Thanks so much for your help.

Well the update on this one is that the freaking foot oil is milky. There are a very small amount of tiny metal slivers on the bottom screw. So water is getting in, does that mean a rebuild of the foot? Or at least all the gaskets?

another update: I took the foot off. The water pump area housing and the main drive gear looks good. Gears on the upper side looks good. I don't see any oil residue or any milky residue any where.

Was therer any fishing line around the prop shaft? That is a seal killer for sure. Time for a pressure test of the case and more than likely a re-seal. Once re-sealed I'd check and adjust the shift cable at the motor if needed.
