I hurt a piston in my 20 hp motor. A buddy gave me a 25 hp powerhead. I installed the 25 hp powerhead on my 20 hp lower unit. I had to use the point plate and magnetos from my old motor. The motor runs good and I have been using the boat. My question is this. The female splines in the 25 hp motor are not good. The splines in the old 20 look like new. Both motors are green with white covers. Can I swap crankshafts and does it even make sense to do it? RM

Just remember RM once you break the CC apart you will have to re-seal it with Gel-seal and clean the surfaces with gasket remover, the coat the piston side with BRP LOCQUIC primer prior to mating the surface together. Torque all the main bolts back to spec etc.

I think I'll pull the old motor apart and see what is involved now that I know the cranks are the same. I worry the motor is going to goof up my driveshaft and leave me stuck in tim buck two somewhere down on the river........LOL. Thanks for the help guys. RM

I tore the crank out of the old motor today. Wasn't a bad job really. Should I disassemble the main bearings and clean and lube them or would it be better to just install it the way it came out? I'm planning to use grease to hold the rollers in the shell, that's good or not? RM

I'd use engine assembly grease on the mains, torque them up and then coat the crank and mains with TCW-3.
