Why do people seem to be so afraid of Jocassee? Rarely hear of tournaments going on there, and there always seems to be an intimidation factor. Yes it can be a tough fishery, and yes it can get pretty sketchy pretty quick up there... But it's the most beautiful lake in the south east I've seen, and home to some giants. Several bass species state records. I'd bet anything the state record largemouth is swimming in that lake as I type this too...maybe more than one? Just curious of why there doesn't seem to be much ever going on up there, that I'm aware of anyways.

I absolutely love the lake. Best looking body of water I've ever fished and I've been bassin' for over 40 years. But the fish can be hard to catch and it's not close to home for most people in this area. I've been in fishing clubs for the past 20 years and every time we have an event there the turnout is a little less than when we fish Keowee or Hartwell. THe guys all say the same thing. "to far to go" and "fish are hard to catch". However, the biggest stringer I've ever see was up there. Nearly 30 pounds. So to me, it's worth the venture. Jocassee is beautiful and I would agree that the state record is swimming in there.
Also, even the smaller fish are strong as an ox.
