Here are the basic steps for winterizing your motor if you plan to lay up more than 4 months.

Remove Propeller and check for fishing line on the prop shaft. This is the quickest way to wipe out a lower unit and cost you big bucks. Remove any line and check seals on the bearing carrier for line intrusion. Fishing line will cut the seals like nobody's business and let water seep into the lower unit. Remove the bottom screw/plug on the Lower Unit fill/drain inlet and remove the upper vent plug and check the color of the fluid and also use your nose to sniff for burnt fluid. Milky is not good and the Lower Unit needs attention. If everything is OK then fill with fresh LU fluid.

Buy a can of fogging oil for the motor any manufactures will work. Buy a bottle of Stabil Marine formula and add that to the gas. It is better to fill the tank before adding the fuel treatment. Start your motor on the muffs and run it for 20 or 30 minutes to make sure the stabilized fuel is in the system and carbs.

Next remove your carb or throttle body air box cover and with the motor running and spray fogging oil down the carb or throttle body intakes.
Get motor up to normal operating temps and inject the fogging oil into the motor this will create a oil cloud the size of Greenwood but will coat all of your internal engine parts with a protective coating of oil and it repels rust deposits on bearings.

Disconnect all hoses going to Speedo gauge and water pressure gauge and you are ready for spring.
