I've got a 2010 Mercury and my warrenty expires next year. Mercury Marine just sent me info on several packages for extended warranty but I'm not sure what needs to be covered. The motor has been good except for one thing.... It keeps burning reeds. I've had them replaced twice in the last 3 years. So my question is... What would you recommend having covered if purchasing extended warranty?

depends.
Look at the cost of the extended warranty. Then look at how much money you have spent / or warranty has covered since you owned it.
Next think about if it blew up in 6 months would you be willing to spend 4-6k on having the power head replaced or 2200-3600 on replacing the gearcase, etc
Now if it blow up and you'd fix it ( had the cash) then the warranty isn't as big of a deal - If it blew up and you would replace it then the warranty is a big deal.
Its just what can you afford to do. Yes the warranty is nice as you pay the 1200-1800 and your covered for another 3 years, its kinda like cheap insurance.
