Well its time to replace the troling batteries in the boat,, I run a older OMC 24v unit. Anyone have experience / recomendations on the newer ACM batteries like the Optima ?
There are a bit more cost over traditional flood cell, but look to be designed to last longer..

I have an Optima battery that powers an electric gate that has been in use for about 3 or 4 years! Not a bit of trouble!
I also have an Optima battery that i use as the cranking battery for my boat. It is also about 3 or 4 years old and has not given any trouble.
When my trolling batteries go bad I plan on replacing them with Optima Batteries. I just don't know how long they will hold a charge during a hard day of fishing in the wind. I know from the design that they will outlast the lead-acid batteries that are currently on the market.

The biggest advantage is that there is no maintenance other than keeping them charged. Right now I am running Delco AGM's for the T/M. They are only a year old, but have been trouble free so far, and they get used hard. I mainly fish a tidal river, so even with no wind, I am on the T/M all day long, just to hold the boat in place. My partner is running Optimas in his rig, and has never had a problem with them in about 4 years. Neither one of us has ever run out of batteries during the day since we started running them Vs traditional flooded cells.

I have run a blue top crankin battery for about 18 months with no problem. The other batteries I tried worked fine until it got below freezing. They did not have enough ass to crank my 225 ficht. Part of that was because the starter was weak. Two starters later, first one was defective, and I am OK now. Battery is still fine. Just info. take it for what it is worth.
