Are you referring to a shoot thru hull style transducer as opposed to a thru hull transducer? A thru hull requires a hole drilled into your hull and then attached to the bottom of the boat. A shoot thru or a TM transducer can be epoxied into the bilge area as can a skimmer transducer. The skimmer would mount to your transom normally. Mounted this way you would get accurate H20 temps but it is susceptable to getting knocked off the boat, theoretically it shouldn't but I've seen them get broken off.
If you do choose to epoxy one in you would need a seperate H20 temp sender attached to the transom to get H20 temps.

I was referring to a shoot thru type. My main question is does the skimmer type have a more accurate resolution than the shoot thru??? Someone told me you could loose up to 20%.

If the shoot thru is installed properly it will work just as well as the skimmer.
