Yes - certain older Daiwa reels, like the TD-X103HVA should NOT be greased. Shimanos should be greased, as well as a timy bit on most Abu Garcias.

Thanks for that info. What about Diawa 5B's? Is there a rule about the type of washer material that should or should not be greesed? Thanks agian.

If you mean the PS2-5B, that one is goes in absolutely dry. Any of the Daiwas with the single thick drag washer go in TOTALLY dry. Ditto on the bas drag washer below the drive gear. Any grease or oil willmake the drag sticky.
