So.....much to my surprise, Palmetto State Armory now sells fishing gear.
I went by the main store on Fernandina road yesterday (yes, I got out in the madness) and noticed a bunch of fishing banners and a new BIG sign with a new PSA fishing logo hanging on the front of the small building to the right across the parking lot from the main store (used to be the corporate office). I obviously didn't go there for fishing stuff but obviously this grabbed my attention so I walked in.
HOLY SCHNIKIES!!!!!!!! The building was roughly 4000-4500sq ft and it was slap full!! Baits, terminal, tools/accessories to the right, rods and reels in the middle, and clothing/apparel to the right. I'm not going to lie, someone did some homework. You can tell this store wasn't stocked by a "gun guy" wanting to sell fishing stuff. Someone clearly fishes and does it right. This store is at least half the size of Sportsman's but they had as good of a selection (better in my opinion) and with somethings, an even larger selection.
Hard Bait- Strike King, Luck Craft, Rapala, Live Target Koppers, Jackall, Heddon, Rebel, Storm Arashi, Spro, Booyah, Livingston... Soft Baits- Zoom, Tight Lines UV, Fish Stalker, Z-Man, Strike King, Robo Worm, Yum, Savage Gear, Yamamoto, Big Bite, Reaction Innovations... Hooks- Gamakatsu, Owner, Mustad, Eagle Claw, Trokar Line- Trilene, Sun Line, Power Pro, Spider Wire, Seaguar, J Braid Reels- Quantum, Shimano, Diawa, Abu, Pflueger, Okuma, Penn, Lews Rods- ALX, Cashion, Quantum, Shimano/G Loomis, Diawa, Abu, Okuma, Penn, and of course the Ugly Stick Humminbird and Lowrance electronics and Minn Kota Trolling motors.
They had a decent crappie section (of course all you need is Fish Stalker) and striper section. They even had a saltwater section. Mostly inshore gear but they had some offshore gear too.
I spoke with a guy named Paul that works there. He was a breath of fresh air because...wait for it.....he actually fishes and knew what he was talking about. He's an avid tournament angler (Lake Murray is his home waters) and loves talking fishing. He mentioned they "soft opened" (his words, not mine) last Saturday. They kept it quiet because they wanted time to work the bugs out and because they are still waiting on some product and fixtures/displays from some vendors. He said they'll be having a big grand opening event on 12/12. He did give many details regarding sales but he did say there would be door prizes and giveaways. They'll be advertising it on the radio (he said they do spots on 102.3, 97.5, and 107.5) leading up to the grand opening.
If I sound excited it's because I am. My favorite gun store just became my favorite store, period. Looks like I won't have to spend as much money with Tackle Warehouse anymore!!!! Lol!! You guys need to do yourselves a favor and go check them out. You won't be disappointed.
