I am wanting yalls opinion on something. I am a sophomore in college right now and I am wanting to start fishing a few of the smaller open tournaments. I have a 17ft Carolina skiff that I fish out of and my livewell is a converted cooler with a spray bar built in to the top. I guess my main concern is if my livewell would be allowed. I know my boat puts me at a slight disadvantage but it's not the boat that catches them. What's everyone's opinion on this?

I fish tournament on some small lakes where I can't but my big boat and I run a Jon boat with 54 qt cooler set up the same way and have never had a problem. From what I know the big think is weighting in live fish. I've even found that the cooler set has worked better then the live wells in some bass tracker.

Buddy I started with a old Johnson 25 stick drive engine and a 14 ft. fiberglass boat that was 18 different colors from all the patches I had to do. Cut a hole in a storage bin so that I had some fresh water to put a fish in. You are young don't expect to have what it took a 50 yr old man 35 years to get. Fish on in your boat and enjoy the sport what its all about. You got this!

Another option for you might be to join a local largemouth club. Most have spots for co-anglers. Then all you would need to do would be share the entry fees and gas expenses. The experience would be really good. There might be something us old folks know that could help you improve your fishing skills. Also, there might be something you could teach us old guys too. Everybody is still learning something about fishing and nobody knows it all.

I have converted tons of dry boxes to livewells and never had any issues. I think it will be fine and no one will say a word.
