I always was a firm believer in a fast hook set.....stay'n ready to pop them jaws @ the first hint of a bite...still am for the most part. But I have had to do this "pre-fish" crap like Cattdaddy talks about, and it's hard to get them to drop it sometimes.

One thing that taught me' was if I get bit & I ain't just set up exactly correctly, I have the time to "get-right".

If their is a better feel'n than get'n that thump on a jig & feel'n that big stiff rod load down to the foregrip on the set & hear'n that 20# go "twaaaannngg" I ain't had it yet. LOL CYA

Take your time and enjoy the moment I say...the only time you need to be in a hurry is when the bass are on the bed..they will spit it out quick then but most of the time you can't pry it out of their mouth.

Someone back me up on this but it seems to me if the water is above 60 you cant shake it away from them but when it gets cold the first thump is him goin swing and the second thump a second later is him going PPUUUHH! And then sometimes you go to pick it up and its not there and hes about 20 ft. on the other side of the boat! MY advice would be to practice til your comfortable

Like my Granddad said " them damn fish an't got hands boy" set the hook hard!
if you fill that tap..tap...tap if is a bass it's his tail hitting you line. If it taps and yu set the hook nothings there it an't no bass.
