Hey fellas, I have never used jigs before but am wanting to learn. My question is about hookset. Whenever you swim or bounce a jig and you feel the bump-bump do you set quick or do you delay a second or two like a plastic worm.

when i use the jigX cayuga craw i use a quick hookset. fish that usually bite a jig are big enough to get the whole thing in one gulp.

The profile of the bait is whatever you feel comfortable with but with the bigger profile jigs you wont get many small bites the ones you get will be good solid fish. On the hookset issue if you are using a half once jig or bigger you better set quick because when you feel it they will have it because they will be good ones and they will get the bait in one gulp. That is a good size chunk of led and it dont take them long to realize that it is not real because nothing they naturally eat has a body as hard as the head of a jig. It is like me and you biting into a steak and it has a bb or a small rock in it we will know right away and then know something is not right. So quick sets with the jig and you will usually have better hook up ratios becasue the second thump you feel will be the big one spitting out your bait

Set the hook fast ----------I always try to set the hook,about 1 second before I feel the thump sometimes my partner says I take it away from em' before they can chew

haha ive heard if you have a gloomis rod you can feel them smell it first

yea if you use ALX rods you dont even have to tie a bait on. The fish see the rod & just jump in your livewell..lol
