I had a buddy boat a 32lb Striper on a Bitsy Bug jig a few years back. took him 20 minutes to tire the fish out and get him in the boat but he was also fishing on the Main river Channel of Old Hickory Lake where those big stripers live. I have never caught a striper on a JNP but Lord knows I have boated some Flathead Cats in the 25 to 30 pound class many times on jigs. Well lets put it this way I got them up beside the boat and was able to cut the line and turn them loose. I fish 40 Braid on my jig rods so catching the big cats is not a problem. It's just a lot of fun and even more work. Flat heads will hit jigs alot as they mistake them from crawfish and Flat heads will not eat dead things like most cats will. I would be willing to guess if you were fishing docks that it was probably a very big Flathead and they will break your mono line really quick if it has any type of weak spot in it.........
