I want to learn to start fishing jigs,so here go the stuip question's is it a good summer time bait or just a winter bait? what is the best way to figure out what ounce to use? is a trailer really needed? forgive the stupid questions buti figure the only way to know is to ask. thanks in advance for your help and response!

Well Dp I'm not sure that I can tell you everything about a Jig but I throw one all year long. I have only been Jig fishing for about a year but can tell you that the quality of fish you catch is much better. I have not had much success in the summer but I try to throw one each time I go out. The fall, winter and spring seem to be the best time to use one. I throw the jig in the same places that I Carolina Rig and fish them a lot in heavy brush. The best advise that I can give you is to contact Cattdaddy and get some Shooter Jigs. These are the only ones that I will fish. I have tried other ones in the past without any luck. Trust me these things catch fish. Good Luck.

Hey Dp, I have been fishing jigs for about 5 years now and Stump Bumper is very right when he said your better quailty fish come on jigs. I had messed around with them some back years ago and had caught a few nice fish on them but more by accident then knowing what I was doing. Finally I just made up my mind to dedicate the time necessary to learn to be productive with them so I purchased an assortment of Hoppy's Jigs, spooled two of my Medium Heavy 6'6" worm rods with 17 and 20 lb test line and emptied everything out of my boat except for two jig rods, a box of jigs and several bags of jig trailers and some soft craws for trailers and went fishing. Every week for a full season I would dedicate one complete day to practicing with jigs and soon I was catching quality fish on them regularly and now they are a critical part of my bass fishing arsenal everytime I go fishing.

some lakes and differant times of yr there are better lure choices, but as fer me im a die hard fan of the jig, very rarely do you stick a little peckerhead on a jig, DONT be afraid of tryin differant ways to use it weather its rippin it off bottom, draggin it , poppin it , or what i need to start more of , swimmin it...its very versitle...and i use it just as much castin it as i do flippin and pitchin ,dont forget to use differant sizes..i started out several yrs ago with 5/16th ounce, and now i use all of the above
