Gosh,I just read this post and I'm sorry you had the problem with Motor Guide. I on the other hand have had nothing except good luck with Motor Guides and the Company. I own two right now both being purchased in 1998. In the begining I had a problem with the 12/24 that came on the Bug boat so took it to my dealer and Motor Guide told them to send the motor to the company. Because I had a tournament coming up the dealer offered to loan me a straight 24 volt unit till mine came back and they pulled a brand new one off a boat and put it on my boat so I could fish the tournament while waiting on mine to come back. About two weeks later mine came back but it was a brand new one. They didn't repair the old one. I liked the straight 24 that was on the boat so well I told the dealer I was just going to purchase it and they wanted to know if I wanted to trade the 12/24 in on it and I said nope, want it for back up. They cut me a real deal on the 24 Volt unit. $450.00 and I now had two trolling motors. About a year later the computer board burned out in the 24 and they told me to take it to Marine Electric here locally and get it looked at. Motor Guide paid to have it repaired under warranty. 6 months later the board burned out again and Motor Guide paid again to have it repaired. 8 months after it had gone out of warranty the board again burned out. This time the company sent a UPS shipping label to me and requested I send it back to them at their expense. I did and put back up on boat. Three weeks later I recieved my motor back but it was not the one I sent. It was a brand new 24 volt unit with a new 2 year warranty on it. I have not had another problem other than momentary switches going bad which is from use and wear and tear. I had one go bad last week and contacted Motor Guide and explained the problems I was having with the switch and they gave me a number to call. I called and explained my problem and the lady said the new switch would cost $12.50 plus shipping. I gave her card number and when the package arrived their was 3 switches in the box. One I was charged for and two sent and paid for by Motorguide. Now I know you had a bad expericnce from them and I am sorry for that but I thought that I needed to tell of my experiences with them that were all very positive.
