I just changed the spark plugs on a 2004 Optimax with the spark plugs the manual told me to use. NGK PZFR5F-11, I took out IZFR5G. The manual says to gap it at .040 and the ones I took out was gaped at .028. REALLY FRUSTRATING. Talk to 2 guys at Mercury and one says its fine the other to change them. They said the manual is wrong and they said SORRY!! Those plugs are $12 a piece and the ones I took out was $20 a piece. Maybe you guys have a 150 optimax and could help me out on this. Another thing, When the motor idles its around 600 rpms. They said that low.

Brent------my 2007 (200 Opti) manual calls for the NGK-IZFR5G---gapped at 0.80mm (0.31 in) , these are the Laser Iridium plugs. PS-----the PZFR5F-11 are the (double Platinum plugs) and the gap reccomended is .44 (1996-2000 Mercury 150 OptiMax DFI 150 HP)

the IZFR5G are the (laser iridium plugs) and the gap reccomended is .31 (2003-2006 Mercury OptiMax 150 DFI)

Thanx Monk! I found some from Monark Products for the same price. Real good deal. I just hate having to take them things out again!! Theres more wires on that motor then Ive ever seen before!

Be careful when you install--------they reccomenf using a piece of heater hose, as a starter, to keep from stripping the threads-----good luck, Monk
