I got to fish Old Hickory Dec. 27th and was well pleased. It's been a long time sence I been on that lake. It's lot better than it use to be. We fished about 4 hours and caught about 20 bass and 4 of them went over 2lbs. Maybe they growing up a little. I came back to SC went out and didn't get a bite. I fished Old Hickory alot about 40 years ago it's a great lake.

Well ALLTAY you did have an exceptional day for sure. and sorry for this very late follow up but I guess better late than never. You fished the lake 40 year ago means you fished it while the lake was very young since it was flooded in 1954. You missed Old Hickory in it's prime which fell in the years between 1985 and 1995 when Old Hickory looked alot like Guntersville does and did. We had some of the greatest weed beds in the country and it was nothing to go out and catch 10 to 15 bass over 5 lbs in a day on the water and you didn'nt even count the 3+ pounders. Then is 1996 they sprayed the weeds and killed the weeds and thousands of fish at the same time and Old Hickory has been going down hill ever since. I fished Old Hickory Lake about 80 times this past Spiing, summer and now Fall and I have caught a total of 8 Bass over 5 pounds and a gazillion of 13 inch fish that have been 13 inches long since they put the 14 inch limit on the lake 5 years ago. In a 50 boat team event there will be a total of about 5 Limts weighed in with most boats having two and maybe three bearly 14 inch fish in their bags. There is a bait fish population that many lakes would only dream of having yet the fish don't grow up. I think the gene pool of big fish is just about depleted in the lake. I was hoping fot teh past two years they would put a slot limit on the lake between 17 and 22 inches to protect what is left of the big fish gene pool during the spawn but so far TWRA has ignored any requests for it. That is why I said Old Hickory will be a great lake if it ever grows up like it once was. In saying that I am talking about the weeds growing back up and the Bass also. I don't see it happening in my life time. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip though......
