Well, I decided that it was a nice morning which are going to be few and far between for a while so I went fishing on what has been called the Deader than Dead Sea by TX anglers for the past 3 weeks. Got on the water about 7AM. Started out with black Buzz Bait. Took two non keepers. 12 in. fish ain't quite legal here. Put first keeper in the boat about 7:30 AM. was about 2 lbs. Wind began to blow pretty good and they began drawing water and current was strong in the creeks. Fished some shallow points with spinnerbaits with no luck. Went to bank with deep fast taper into deep 20 plus water and a lot of laydowns on it. Tried a jig but couldn't get any attention. Didn't see shad working on top but saw pods down in about 12 foot almost blacking out depth finder screen. Tried swimming a spinner bait below them and nothing. Tried a Crankbait and nothing. Sat down and drank a cup of Coffee and took a smoke while just drifting. Started digging through tackle locker trying to get some kind of idea throwing soft bags of baits in the floor everywhere. Once I had about 50 different kinds of baits on the floor I sat and finished my coffee and smoke while staring at all the baits.
Yep dumb foundedness had set in and was drawing a blank.
Decided to go to my bait when times are really tough and put on a Califlower Fluke on. Threw it in a treetop laying on the bank and let it lay and pumped it one time and it got toilet flushed by a 3 plus. Wound up catching 5 more while moving down that bank , all about the same size before the wind got so bad I decided to call it a day about 11:00AM.
I really was not expecting those fish to take that Fluke like they did because I know how hard it was for the Tx anglers this past weekend but then my go for broke bait has always been my Flukes on lay downs and Boat docks on deep banks and weed lines near deep water on Old Hickory.
