After several close calls, I finally caught a 10 + lbs bass. I saw the fish about 20ft off the bank and knew it was huge when I saw it. Since the bed was pretty far off the bank, I was using light colors so that I could see the bait. I had 2 white flukes that were keeping her attention. She was different from other bass in that she would watch the bait from a distance. When she decided she was going to bite, she would swim right up to the bait and inhale it. There was no closer inspection or hesitation. So, after the second time she hit, I set the hook and had her hooked for about 15 seconds before she jumped and spit the hook. So I let her settle down for a little while before I tried again. The third time she hit, I set the hook and nothing. My last light colored fluke was gone. I tried every lure I could think of and couldn't find anything that I could see. Then it hit me. I had a chartruse spinnerbait skirt on one of my spinnerbaits. So i threaded the spinnerbait skirt above a red tube and went back at it. After 5 hours, 4 bites, 2 flukes, and a chartruse spinnerbait/red tube combination, I landed my first double digit bass.

She is still swimming today. I always said I would mount the first 10 pounder I caught but I wanted her to get back on the bed. The lake is a 15 acre pond near the airport in Charlotte. Its mostly owned by the city but there are not any "no tresspassing" signs. I've seen a few people fishing from the one house there and they just ask if I caught anything.
