I have been using the Picasso shakey heads and hardly ever miss or lose a fish on them. I use a baitcast rig with 12 lb fluro.

I would guess that your rod selection is the problem. Med. action to me is usually too wimpy to really get the hook thru the plastic then bury the hook in the boney mouth of the fish. Personally I would use a med. heavy rod, 6'6" to 7 ft. up the line to 10/12. Look for a rod that can handle lure weights from 1/4 oz. to 1 oz. or better it should give you a fast tip section but enough backbone to set the hook because it is made to handle the heavier lures. JMHO

what kind of worm your throwing it might be to thick fore the hook to get threw to the fishes mouth

I always use 10 pound power pro with my shaky heads too. Its amazing how much better you can feel and cast with it. I use an 8 pound fluorocarbon leader always though. I have found that it is actually much easier to set the hook with the traditional style shaky head where you slide the top of the worm up the hook. I seem to miss a lot more fish with the spring kind. I have a lot better luck with a sweeping type hook set where you reel as fast as you can once the fish loads the rod until he is hooked.
