Don't know what you know about shock collars for dog training... don't really care. It is a useful tool used once a dog is "collar conditioned" to apply a light controlled electrical stimulation to correct a dogs behavior. It is used to hust the dog... only to get his attention. This stimulation is applied until the dog corrects himself..... making the dog think he has the power to turn on and off the stimulation by his actions. Thus he does what he is commanded to do and keep the stimulation switched off! A very useful tool, however there are people who don't want us animal owners to use shcok collars... if they succeed... the electric fences, and the electric boundry fences will be next. I am and have been a dog wner since I was 6 years old and I'm 60 now and I have had pure breds and mutts and I have had Beagles that I rabbit hunted with all my life till I quit hunting and they were some of the best dogs in the coutry for trailing rabbits and won several cmpetitions for field trials and I have two dogs at present and they are both well trained and I have never had to use a shock collar on any dog I have ever owned nor have I ever had to abuse on to teach it or train it. Do me a favor and strap one of those on your neck and let someone push the button and see if you think it is such a great idea. It might teach teh dog obedience but so does tender loving care and attention plus rewards for doing what they are taught. Sorry I can't agree with the shock collars but I don't torturing a dog is a way to train one. Taking time with a pets training is much more enjoyable for both the owner and the pet. JMHO |

Well I can tell that YOU have ever used a shock collar or know how to use one! The proper way to use one is to teach the dog first and reinforce with the collar set on a very low setting! The collar is first placed on the dog at the lowest setting.... a person can not even feel it.... and adjust until you see some visible sign that he feels it (could be a twitch, eye movement, ear raise stightly, etc. This is the level used to reinforce the command. The collar's use is about like grabbing a small child by the arm and saying didn't I tell you so and so! No pain involved... just they know they had better listen. And that is the proper way shock collars should be used! |

You are correct. I have never used one and I would never use on. Electricity is the most unpredictable energy we use in our every day lives and also the most uncontrollable. They use the term of saying we have harnessed electricity but have never expressed the fact that they have controlled electricity. If that shock collar fails one time and shorts out one time you have caused major harm to the dog and training theory. I don't trust electricity nor electrical products enough to use them on any animals. JMHO |
