Fire ants can't be eliminated entirely because it's not possible to treat all areas that are infested. Thus the goal of current integrated pest management programs is to suppress fire ants as much as possible with biological control methods.

Hey folks. Since this thread has been revived I will add my two cents here.
It is true that you can't get rid of them completely (either way it could harm the ecosystem itself), just control it. My house is overrun periodically because of a few reasons:
1)I live near woods;
2)I forget to use repellents periodically.

In case of ant infestation in your home Borax is a valid solution. As for the repellents I recommend checking this link https://pestcontrolhacks.com/ants-house ... ugar-ants/ especially the part about home remedies and folk methods. Personally, I would suggest to carefully use kerosene, ammonia and birch tar. Hope that will help anyone.
