Crawworm (Ken Clark) has a 2001 90 HP Johnson on his Javelin........Sometimes it spits and putters like it's not getting any fuel.......it will run like this for a while then for no apparent reason it will straighten out and run right, generally the rest of the day....any ideas on what might cause this?..........Thanks.........

our old pontoon had an evinrude 50hp that did that. look and see if its sucking the primer bulb flat when its running bad. in our case it was the check valve in the bulb itsself preventing fuel from making it to the engine.... then it would start working again and run fine on and off...

It could be a bad primer bulb or the pump getting ready to go south. Go with the cheaper one get a new primer bulb from your local Johnson Evinrude dealer don't get one from Wal-mart.

I have the same motor and was having a very similar problem, but my motor would completely quit running and the bulb would be really soft. I could pump back up hard and would run find for 2-3 minutes and quit again. As long as someone kept pumping the bulb it ran fine. Replace bulb and no more problems.
I also recommend replacing the bulb.
