Basic rules of thumb for reels:
1) Bearings and bushings get OIL
2) Gears and sliding parts get Grease

What about the worm gear. I have heard to use grease it and then I have heard it should get a few drops of oil.

Tripp,
Put a drop of oil on each BUSHING or bearing at the ends of the worm gear but nothing on the worm itself. All that will do is attract dirt & sand -- which will wear out your worm.
