BEWARE OF STRICKLAND MARINE IN ANDERSON.

A friend of mine had to have a fender replacedon his 07 Ranger. He took it to STRICKLAND MARINE for the repair. They ordered the fiberglass fender and when it arrived they called him to bring his boat in for it to be installed. Said it would take 2/3 days. Tues June 2 he dropped his boat and trailer off at their dealership. It was covered with his custom Ranger cover.

HERE COMES THE GOOD(BAD) PART.

He figured he would have gotten a call on Friday that it was ready to be picked up BUT they did not call.

SATURDAY JUNE 5. He gets a call from the Greenville County Sherrif's office that they, the sherrif's patrol has found his boat and trailer pushed down an embankment in Pelzer headed into the river in front of the old textile plant. When he arrives at the scene this is what he finds:
Mercury 150 Opti gone. Whoever stole his boat cut all the wires and the gas line and lifted the motor off.
All batteries --gone (they were new)
All the seats were stripped, windsheilds destroyed, anything removeable was gone.
When they pushed the boat down the embankment they must have used a motor vehicle behind it to do so and this caused the dolly wheel to bend backwards when it grabbed something. Bent the trailer frame and this kept it from going into the river. The custom wheels and tires were stripped of course.

HE CALLED STRICKLAND AND ASKED IF HIS BOAT WAS READY AND HE WAS ASSURED THAT IT WAS . HE ASKED MR. STRICKLAND TO VERIFY THAT IT WAS FINISHED BEFORE HE MADE THE TRIP OVER. (HE LIVES IN EASLEY). MR STRICKLAND SAID HE WOULD CALL HIM BACK IN AMIN.OR SO HE WAS VERIFYING THAT IT WAS READY. HE NEVER GOT THAT CALL.
HE WAS ALREADY ON HIS WAY OVER BECAUSE HE KNEW THE ANSWER.

MR. STRICKLANDS ANSWER WHEN CONFRONTED.

SORRY WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND BESIDES WE DON'T HAVE INSURANCE. SORRY. YOUR INSURANCE CO WILL HAVE TO REIMBURSE YOU."

BE FORE WARNED!!!

Thats not good. I had a Trolling motor stolen off my boat in Columbia Repair shop and was told same thing that it was not coved by the dealer. Thats why everyone should check you insurance policy for coverage or better call your agent to comfirm. The dealer may have covage but not letting him know because a claim may made his premurns go up.

I hate it for your freind. Hope they find who did it.
With things getting tighter now with unemployment at a all time high some people will do anything.

My freind trolled the Jockey Lot today and came up empty Sad Then came to Greenville and did the same at Whitehorse Rd. Flea Market. Found about $1200 of his tackle at a dealer there. Dealer claims he didn't know it was "hot" stuff. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Guess what Hmm Hmm The dealer's wife wrote a check to the guy selling the stuff cause they didn't have enough cash on them Shocked Shocked Shocked

Can we say DUMB CROOKS Question Question Question

My freind is now looking for a late , 08, or later RANGER DC with XR6 or an OPTI.
Let me know if you know of anything. He is looking to do this quickly.

I wonder why the dealer did not inform him it was missing... I understand the dealer not covering the insurance but for them not to call the customer is not right. We have had a trolling motor and a depth finder stolen from the shop but as soon as we found out it was missing we called the customer ASAP.

Just curious ..... did he leave it with them behind the gate ..... or did he just drop it off out front (like so many do there) waiting on them to pull it around with the tractor?????

Just curious so it never happens to me.

Can you give us a little more on how / when the boat is thought to have been stolen from the marina? Not sure I understand why a marina would not be held responsible for the theft either..... Not like you can put a lock on the trailer out front since they would not be able to hitch the tractor to it. I guess I will sit and actually watch the boat be moved behind the fence going forward....I was never really comfortable just "dropping" it out front anyways.

I read this post and then called C&O Marine here in Tennessee and asked them about how their Insurance Coverage works. They said they are not rsponsible for any boats dropped off after hours outside their fences but as long as they drop off a boat during business hours and come inside and notify them that the boat is on their property from that point on the boat is the responsibility of the Marine Service and if anything happens they or their Insurance Company is responsible for replacment costs. They said you can bet Strickland Marine has insurance and just not wanting to place a claim cause it will drive their costs up and they are hoping that the boat onwer will persue his insurance company for the replacement. The owner of C&O said that the boat owner needs to sue Strickland Marine and force them to use their insurance coverage to replace the boat. He said that they cannot be a new boat dealer and not have insurance or no boat manufacturer especialy Ranger would do business with them without proof of having it to cover new boats on property. I would sic my lawyers on them so fast they would be back peddling quick. Now with that said My Skeeter Bass Boat is insured and has been for 12 years since day one new and my agent for my insurance works for Strickland Marine Insurance in Columbia South Carolina. Kinda makes ya wonder huh. I have had two claims in 12 years and both of them handled very professionally in 10 days or less. ..........My 2 cents.

I'm with Softy on that. Contact your attorney to get a question anerwered or better yet let your insurance company contact them because if they have covage @ Strickland Marine you can bet your carrier will find out. And just like Micheal said the dealer should had contacted the owner ASAP IF they knew the boat was gone just to cover their self. I think your freind has a good case. Just my 2 cent. Also I would notifie the police on the buyer of the stolen property @ the flea market. That way so much of the stuff is getting stolen because there is a market for it. Teach people not to buy hot stuff.

If people would quit buy'n stolen stuff they'd quit stealing. Burn down the Jocky Lot, all Pawn Shops & un-plug E-Bay.

I actually dropped my boat off there this morning. Turns out the boat was not stolen from the front of the dealership. It was in the back of the property and stolen at night. Somebody cut the fence to get in and then took the double gate off of the hinges while still locked. My question is why somebody would go after a smaller Ranger with an xr6 150 Merc when there are about 15 brand new ranger 520, Z521, etc with new Optis and HPDIs laying around? My understanding is that they went looking for the boat when he called and that is when they found the fence and gate destroyed. I do agree that they should of had the work done in a more timely manner, but we are certainly in the busy season for boat work. I hate it for your buddy, but I am glad to know more about happened. It could have been any storage area with a fence and barbed wire.......

By them seeking out an older boat with an X6 motor it does not sound like they are going to be selling the parts this took. It sounds more like they may be fixing a boat that had those identical parts needed to get their own boat repaired. I don't think many of your parts are going to end up on Ebay or flea markets. They are going to fix up another boat and either sell it or use it. JMHO and 2 cents.
