So far as I read the 2010-2011 scdnr rules it is not law yet. Go to scdnr website and download the rules in adobe, my local bait/tackle shop says he wont have any printed copies until mid August. Hope this helps. |

I missed that...I did hear they were wanting to make Russell a "trophy" stripper lake...bait shop on the upper Sav side sells live trout...used to be trout behind the Hartwell dam but I don't know if they still stock them there. I used to enjoy fish'n up there when it was hot...cold water, but I ain't got the wheels to travel on them slick rocks anymore. |

This is the only part of the proposal that has actually been approved and signed into the books...
"S.914 Black Bass Limits in Lakes Marion and Moultrie
and the Upper Santee River Effective Date 3/31/2010 —
Act No. 144
It is unlawful to possess any black bass (largemouth) in
Lakes Marion or Moultrie or the upper Santee River less than
fourteen inches in total length. It is unlawful to land black bass
without the head and tail fin intact. The lawful catch limit for black
bass in Lakes Marion or Moultrie or the upper Santee River is 5
per day.”
I can't find the original prosal but the original proposal included many other lakes with in the state. There were a few exceptions. Maybe someone else can have better luck finding the original proposal.
My guess, this new reg will more than likely spread to the other lakes that were on the original proposal probably with in the next two to three years. |

They have these meetings scheduled to discuss the size and limit changes.
DNR seeks public input on freshwater fishing regulation changes

Attendees will also have the opportunity to provide written comment. DNR will have responses to comments received by residents through the online request for comments on Chapter 13 and the updated proposed statutes by early July. All responses will be posted on the DNR website.

Chapter 13 deals with more then just bass. There are proposed changes for crappie, trout, non gamefish, stripers, commercial fishing etc.I went to the meeting in Monkie"s Corner last night. There are still a couple of lakes that will have a 12 inch limit but creel down to 5.Crappie,the limit down to 20 with a 8" size limit. If things go to plan,in a couple of years you should have more fish & also more fish in different weight classes. |

Murray already has an 8" size limit for crappie.
Boog, it has more to do with $ than it does eating fish or tournament weights.
Like it or not...Good, bad, or indifferent, people come from all acrossed the country to fish places like Guntersville, Falcon, Amistad, the California Delta, Clear Lake, and Erie because of the quality (size) of the fish, not the taste or flavor or the fish. |
