Lake Marion is the largest lake in the state of South Carolina at 110,000 acres. Marion is connected to its sister lake, Lake Moultrie, by a canal. These lakes are located in the lowlands of South Carolina north of Charleston. Santee Cooper is now the name of the utility that owns and operates the lakes for power production. These lakes are legendary for great fishing. The state record largemouth bass was caught here. Also huge catfish are caught in the Diversion Canal, which connects the two lakes. Fishing guides are available for both of these lakes. The look of Lake Marion is far different from the upstate lakes. Here you will see many cypress tree and swampy looking areas. In contrast, you will also see vast expanses of open water. Consequently, the waves are known to get very high on windy days. In addition to Santee State Park, this lake has many campgrounds, boat ramps, restaurants, and places for lodging Fishing Humor - Stop in & get your daily chuckle. Got a joke? Send it in.
