Ok we all that are trekkies know that Spock was always very logical in every thing he approached. So lets look at worm fishing from a Spock point of view. I have a poll running in the general discussion area about worm colors. Now if Spock were asked the question of what is the true color of a worm what would his answer be? I think first he would ask to tell him what kind of worm is it? If the answer is a Cataupa worm he would reply a greenish yellow with black strips and spots. If he was told in was a Tobacco or Tomatoe worm he would reply light to medium green. If he was told an earth worm it would be a much harder answer because earth worms come in many different colors. Logic would call for the most common answer and that would be a light pink or cream colored belly and a brownish-purple top to ressemble the night crawler. Now that is logical from a Spock point of view. Now lets look at the Bass Anglers worm color Logic from the replies from above with the exception of GUNFISH's reply.......... I said Alabama Craw which is a two tone brown worm with black pepper in it and red shad which most know what it looks like. Now if we look at Boogers Logic Gosh ok I see some there in the fact that he uses a varity of baits because he wants to cover all the bases and confuse the fish...... But really all jokes aside the logic from Booger is that he may not be fishing a worm, but a snake. Now this is where it becomes more logical than most folks believe. Worms come in few colors yet snakes come in many colors and a snake can have muliple colors at the same time and Bass do consider a snake an important part of their food chain. Snakes become active about the same time as worms so that is logical that bass would be apt to take either as food. Snakes are of course as much a part of the water world or even more so than the worm so now the logic begins to evolve into a new area. When we fish a worm are we fishing a worm because it is called a worm or are we fishing a worm that is really imitating a snake in all reality. I have seen some bait companies call their worms, snakes on their packages yet when you remove the bait from the bag it is infact a worm body?
Now to the next level. Most anglers fish worms near the bank which is of course where you would think worms would live but how many times have you seen worms on a bank verses how many times have you seen a small water snake swimming along the bank? Which seems more logical? Next is matted weed beds which we all fish worms either in or on the weed lines. Do night crawlers or worms live in weeds? I think not. Logic says they don't. Do Snakes live in and around weed beds and matter weeds. Logic and research says they do.
Now after looking at all of the logic listed and drawing conclusions pertaining to worms and worm colors even though most anglers call a worm a worm are we really fishing worms or are we fishing worms as snake imitators and if so then are we really using worm colors or are we using snake colors? If you look at the logic, we are fishing snakes and in most cases snake colors and calling them worms......JMHO
